Approach & Details

Dr. Royster’s approach to therapy is tailored to your child and your family- there is no one size fits all approach to kids. All interventions take attachment theory, relationships, and family systems into account. Dr. Royster draws from well-known modalities to tailor treatment recommendations, specifically, play therapy, psychodynamic, cognitive-behavioral therapy (CBT), and Parent Child Interaction Therapy (PCIT) approaches. She has a background in Sensory Processing Disorder and neuro-divergent children, which she expertly weaves into her work. Dr. Royster works with families and parents to implement and support the skills learned in therapy in home and school environments. After all, what good is learning a new way of doing things if it does not translate across situations?

Play is at the foundation of all of Dr. Royster’s sessions, whether it is structured play sessions or games to teach skills- it is the most effective way to relate to kids. This play based approach helps children learn new skills they can apply outside of therapy, in a school or home setting. Dr. Royster’s goal is to teach you how to support your child moving forward from therapy, and to listen and problem solve with you about your parenting questions. Together, her evidence-based, empathic and relational approaches can help your child thrive.
